Types Of Relationship Breakups

As you know, relationship breakups are terrible emotional events and quite devastating. You think you found someone - finally - that you can spend your life with, someone who understands you and loves you. You’ve never been more comfortable with anyone, ever. And then, you lose it and your world is turned upside down.

When people go through relationship breakups, the emotional healing process is similar to what you go through when a loved one passes away. Being that suffering the death of a relationship is very much like suffering the death of a loved one, it’s not surprising. However, unlike a person, a relationship can be brought back to life.

Breakups don’t necessarily have to be permanent in many cases. Way more relationships can be salvaged than those that are forever destroyed. It’s important to understand the different kinds of relationship breakups that exist and what you can do about them.

We’ll take a brief look at the various kinds of breakups and what sort of strategies you can do to fix them. Keep in mind that while most relationships can be repaired, not all of them should be fixed. So let’s let’s cover the right techniques for each kind of breakup.

Abusive Relationship Breakups

This is the kind of relationship that should not be saved. Let this breakup stick – it can and it should! Even if you’re remotely considering going back to this relationship – please don’t!- you do NOT deserve to be physically or emotionally abused. Alright – got that one out of my system.

Mutual Breakup

Not always, but a lot of times when both people want out, it’s a mutual thing – that kind of relationship shouldn’t be fixed – especially if it’s truly mutual. However, if it was just called a relationship and was actually one of following two relationship breakups, that’s a different matter.

You Got Dumped

Usually, this is the one that hurts the most. If they broke up with you, the first thing you need to do is figure out exactly what happened – why did the relationship end? When you have this figured out, you have to decide if the underlying problems are something you could and should fix. If you can answer positively, then working on these things need to be your starting point.

You Dumped Them

Sometimes we break up with someone and then we realize we made a huge mistake by throwing away a good thing. If this has happened to you – the first thing you need to do – is re-establish trust. Basically, you’re going to have to start the relationship over. Slow and steady wins the race on this one. Something like a coffee date to start, or something equally “innocent” and small. Then slowly work towards fixing the relationship.

Whichever of the above relationship breakups that you are dealing with, know this – there is help out there. You just need the right advice and instruction in repairing your feelings and your relationship with your ex.

May God bless you with love and happiness!
